Nicole Matthews to challenge for the SHIMMER Championship

SHIMMER recently revealed Nicole Matthews will challenge Nicole Savoy at The Summit in August. Their bout for the SHIMMER Championship is one of four title matches slated for the cross-promotional event.

KC Spinelli will take on Rosemary to crown the first Smash Wrestling Women’s Champion. Aerial Monroe will face Zoe Lucas in a rematch for the Phoenix of Rise Championship. In addition, Femme Fatales Champion, Mercedes Martinez, will defend her title against an unnamed challenger.

In a video released via Twitter, Matthews spoke about her reputation for being disloyal and selfish. She went on to expound on her loyalty to the promotion and her desire to help it grow. So, she declared her plan to challenge Savoy at The Summit.

She lamented that she never got a rematch or another number one contender’s match when she lost the championship. However, that wasn’t her focus. If she regains the title, she plans to defend it at other promotions all over the world like Pro Wrestling: Eve, PWA Australia, ECCW, and Smash Wrestling.

Nicole Matthews is a former SHIMMER Champion and a two-time SHIMMER Tag Team Champion. She lost the championship at SHIMMER 77 to Madison Eagles in a No Disqualification match.

She also claimed the SHIMMER Championship was too prestigious for a place like Berwyn, Illinois, where the company is based. Matthews promised when she wins the title it will never have to return there.

Last year, the Canadian native received a 5-year ban from entering the United States. According to Dave Meltzer, Matthews was banned because she was caught performing at independent shows in the states without a work visa.

This could be a part of her motivation to take the championship to international promotions where she would be allowed to defend it.

At any rate, The Summit looks to be an eventful show with storied ties to each respective promotion involved. The all women’s supershow will take place The MET – Midtown Event Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 10.
