It’s common knowledge by now that WWE has a working relationship with Glasgow hardcore promotion, Insane Championship Wrestling. The partnership allows for WWE Superstars like Killian Dain and Viper (Piper Niven for the NXT UK crowd) to pop back and forth between brands. It even allows Toni Storm to defend her NXT UK Women’s Championship on an ICW stage. She may do just that at ICW Shug’s Hoose Party 6.
On a recent episode of ICW Fight Club, Piper Niven cut a promo where she challenged Storm to defend her NXT belt against her at the aforementioned pay-per-view. Footage of the segment can be viewed in a tweet from ICW below.
The match has now been confirmed to take place on Night 2 of the big show, with Toni Storm offering a confirmation tweet of her own to one of her best friends in the industry.
ICW Shug’s Hoose Party is notoriously viewed as one of ICW’s biggest PPV events of the year. The card this year is already stacked, with marquee matches including ICW Heavyweight Champion Lionheart defending against NXT UK’s Wolfgang, as well as WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett taking on ICW mainstay Just Justice.
Having Piper Niven vs. Toni Storm for the NXT UK Women’s Championship on the card is like putting icing on the cake. The two have squared off dozens of times across promotions already, most notably in the Quarterfinals of the 2017 Mae Young Classic tournament. Their latest encounter could be a bonafide show stealer.
Also, just as a fun little aside, it might be worth noting that Sasha Banks had this to say under ICW’s original tweet.
Before you start cooking up any “Sasha Banks to ICW” headlines, her tweet is just that: a tweet. Don’t expect any further speculation or to see Banks added to Shug’s Hoose Party 6 any time soon. Would be cool to see, sure, but Niven vs. Storm alone has what it takes to be a classic barn burner on their own terms.
