Alexa Bliss will challenge Bayley at Stomping Grounds

Tonight, Alexa Bliss earned a shot at the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Stomping Grounds.

Bliss interviewed Bayley on “A Moment of Bliss”. The segment got tense when Bliss insinuated the title felt more relevant when she was champion. This prompted Carmella to interrupt them, followed by Charlotte.

Flair revealed Shane McMahon scheduled a number one contender’s match to determine who will face Bayley at Stomping Grounds. This set up Charlotte vs. Carmella vs. Alexa Bliss later in the episode.

In a solid match, Flair dominated early on, but Carmella managed to get some offense in—including an impressive transition into the Code of Silence. She eventually got the upper hand after two well-placed superkicks. Charlotte regained control after Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose came out to distract Carmella.

The Queen locked in the Figure Four Leg Lock, but Bliss broke up the submission with a well-timed Twisted Bliss. From there it looked like anyone’s match as the three opponent all traded pin attempts.

However, Deville and Rose asserted themselves again. They distracted Carmella long enough for Bliss to nail her with a DDT and pick up the win. So, Alexa Bliss is the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

The finish will officially reignite Bayley and Alexa’s feud, which dates back to the former’s first and only reign as Raw Women’s Champion. It will be interesting to see how this plays out now that Bayley has more of an edge. Bliss notoriously mocked her lack of conviction in the past.

WWE Stomping Grounds will take place on Jun. 23 in Tacoma, Washington at the Tacoma Dome. The new pay-per-view event will replace Backlash
