Candy Lee will make her North American debut at RISE: Pride & Joy. She will compete in a match against Mercedes Martinez’s protégé, Miranda Alize.
Candy Lee is a Samoan wrestler who resides in New Zealand. She trained at the IPW Training Academy, and eventually debuted for Impact Pro Wrestling in October of 2016. In the following year, the 23-year-old prospect made history as the first transgender woman to win a major indie women’s title.
At Nightmare Before Christmas, the event where she made her IPW debut a year prior, she defeated Britenay to become the NZ Women’s Champion. She and ASUKA 朱崇花 – not to be confused with the WWE superstar – are both trailblazers for trans women all over the world.
Fellow transgender wrestler and AEW star Nyla Rose will also appear at the event as a co-host alongside Sonny Kiss. It’s evident RISE felt it was important for all members of the LGBTQ community to be represented at the show.
The Chicago-based women’s promotion will host Pride & Joy on Jun. 30, following the local Pride Parade. All proceeds for RISE t-shirts sales during Pride month, as well a percentage of the sales from the live stream of this event, will be donated to Center on Halsted.
Pride & Joy will stream live on Fite.tv.
