Nikki Cross should be added to the title match at Extreme Rules

The month, WWE reignited the feud between Alexa Bliss and Bayley. Honestly, this was the perfect time to revisit it, and it has been entertaining so far. Notably, Nikki Cross adds an interesting wrinkle to their storied rivalry.

Tuesday, while Bliss was en route to Japan, Cross defeated the SmackDown Women’s Champion to secure a rematch for her newfound friend at Extreme Rules. This comes off the heels of their title match at Stomping Grounds, in which Nikki Cross attempted to interfere.

At first glance, this new development is a bit bizarre. When in fact, it could be a great way to bring both plot points to a head. On one hand, Cross arguably cost Bliss the match on Sunday because she distracted the referee long enough for Bayley to get her knees up and counter the Twisted Bliss.

So, this could be a way for her to make up for that. On the other hand, she did pin the champion. In theory, she should be next in line for a title shot.

Alexa didn’t earn the opportunity to challenge for the SmackDown Women’s Championship as she did at the beginning of the month. So, WWE should make it a Triple Threat match and add Nikki Cross. It seems only right, and it would add more intrigue to this program. Adding the former SAnitY member would firmly stack the odds against Bayley and test the validity of her alliance with “The Goddess.”

Also, Extreme Rules was the pay-per-view where the champion notoriously lost in a Kendo Stick on a Pole match because she appeared too innocent to use a weapon on her opponent. This is not only Bayley’s chance to erase that embarrassing finish once and for all, but it’s also a chance to see Nikki cut loose on the main roster first time.

A Triple Threat match, of course, excludes disqualifications or count-outs. So, it would be a fitting stipulation considering the history surrounding this rivalry – and the pay-per-view’s namesake.

There are still so many potential stories involving Bayley, who wants “rewrite history.” There’s a chance to play up Cross’ motivation to seemingly do anything to help Alexa win. Even more, this gives WWE an opportunity to add an unexpected twist to this program. Everyone assumes Bliss is just using Nikki, and she will eventually turn on her. But what if it’s the other way around?

What if she has been playing Alexa all along and exploiting their relationship to weasel her way into big matches? There is plenty of evidence that this could be a possibility, which is more reason why Cross should be inserted into the match.

If she turns on Bliss and attempts to win the title for herself, that would be a great way to set up a mid-card feud for Raw. Granted, both brands could use more secondary women’s programs.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see, but this could be the best way to progress these storylines and add a stipulation to the title match. Nikki Cross vs. Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss could conceivably benefit everyone involved.
