The ten best women’s SummerSlam matches

3. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte vs. Carmella – 2018

Becky Lynch was on a major winning steak last summer. She seemed poised to become the next SmackDown Women’s Champion when she defeated the current champion, Carmella, to earn a title shot at SummerSlam 2018.

That is until Charlotte Flair returned on the following week. She defeated the champion as well and Paige added her to the match.

In the week leading up to the event, tension grew between Flair and Lynch but they promised to remain friends. Carmella played on this dissension and attempted to take advantage of it in the bout. In truth, this was her best outing as champion.

Even with such a great story surrounding it, there were some great moments in this match. Charlotte reversed Carmella’s handstand frankensteiner into a Boston crab. Then she transitioned it into a Figure Eight before Lynch broke it up with a diving leg drop.

Even more, Carmella executed a suicide dive out of nowhere to take out Becky. At one point, Flair paused to apologize to Lynch before attempting a Natural Selection, but Becky reversed it and put her in the Dis-arm-her.

Once the action widdled down to one-on-one between Carmella and “The Lasskicker,” you could feel the tide changing. Lynch locked her in the Dis-arm-her in the center of the ring. “The Princess of Staten Island” was bound to tap.

Suddenly, Charlotte hit Lynch with the Natural Selection from behind to break up the hold and deliver a crushing loss. Afterward, the fans booed and chanted “Becky” as the two best friends embraced.

Then, Lynch snapped and jumped the seven-time champion in the most shocking moment of the night. This historic moment marked the birth of what would become “The Man” persona and the start of Charlotte and Lynch’s bitter rivalry.

This match was good but the ending will go down as a moment that changed the face of WWE’s women’s division. Of course, it also undoubtedly changed the trajectory of Becky Lynch’s career.
