Number one contender’s match set for NXT network debut

Last night, WWE announced the first two matches for NXT’s network television debut. One of them is a number one contender’s match for the NXT Women’s Championship.

On the newest episode, General Manager, William Regal, revealed Mia Yim, Bianca Belair, and Io Shirai will compete in a triple threat match to determine the next challenger for the brand’s women’s championship. This will take place in two weeks on the NXT premiere on USA.

Three weeks ago, WWE confirmed that NXT will become a two-hour live show, which will air on the USA Network later this month.

The first episode is as good of a time as any to decide who will be Shayna Baszler’s next challenger. The question of who will end “The Queen of Spades” dominant reign will be one of the biggest questions heading into this new era. So, it’s a good idea to address it right away.

Furthermore, this a great way to introduce three of the top women’s wrestlers on the roster to a new audience. All three of them have unsuccessfully challenged Baszler in the past, but this is a perfect way to re-establish one of them as a strong contender.

Even more, if Shayna Baszler loses to one of them, this could be an apt time to present her to main roster fans in case she appears in the reported WWE draft in October.

NXT will debut on the USA Network on Sept. 18 at 8 pm EST. It will continue to film at Full Sail University, but it will air live for the first time.
