NXT’s debut on the USA Network kicked off with a women’s match. In this fatal four-way match, Candice LeRae defied the odds to become the new number one contender.
LeRae faced off against Bianca Belair, Mia Yim, and her heated rival—Io Shirai—to decide who will be the next challenger for the NXT Women’s Championship. She was the last participant added to fray last week after William Regal scheduled a triple threat match two weeks ago.
Regal agreed that she deserved a spot in the match after LeRae voiced frustrations with that Shirai was allowed participate given her behavior recently. Last night when the bell rang, Candice went straight for Io.
These four female NXT stars put on a show in a match that included dives and a fantastic tower of doom spot. However, it was Candice LeRae who came out on top.
She executed a reverse hurricanrana followed by a springboard moonsault to pin Mia Yim and earn her first opportunity to challenge Shayna Baszler. In the end, the champion, and the other Horsewomen of MMA, met LeRae at the top of the ramp to set up their match in just two weeks.
The NXT Women’s Championship match will take place on Oct. 2, the same day as the first AEW Women’s World Championship match when the new company debuts on TNT.
