The five best Asuka matches so far

2. Asuka vs. Charlotte – WrestleMania 34

Asuka vs Charlotte was arguably the best match on the card for WrestleMania 34. Moreover, it’s still objectively the best in-ring performance featuring women in the event’s storied history. The presentation also rivals what we saw in the main event this year.

“The Streak vs. The Title” will go down as one of the most thrilling, hard-hitting, theatrical, and controversial bouts in both women’s careers. They have such great chemistry together and it was on full display throughout the match.

For the first half of the fight, they tried to get the better of one another, going back and forth. Asuka targeted Flair’s shoulder and Charlotte worked the challenger leg to set up a certain legendary leg lock. Each withstood everything their opponent could dish out.

Asuka was at her most dangerous when she countered Charlotte’s moonsault and pulled her into a triangle chokehold. Flair showed off her touted athleticism as well. No matter how many times we see it, the Spanish Fly from the top rope still looks amazing.

There’s so much to like about this match but the finish did seem a little rushed. Charlotte forced Asuka to submit with the Figure Eight, which she astonishingly pulled off with one arm.

Now, the outcome will be the subject of debate for years to come. It would be fair to say the loss damaged Asuka’s mystique at a time when she was just taking off on the main roster. You could also argue this was an uneventful way to end her undefeated streak.

However, Asuka delivered a memorable match on the biggest stage she has ever wrestled on. For better or worse, she made history even in defeat and nothing will change that. This match was special, and it will continue to be revisited on lists like this for decades.
