Tonight on the first episode of WWE Backstage on FS1, Triple H announced a “blockbuster” trade.
According to the COO, Raw traded Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross to SmackDown. The former Women’s Tag Team Champions will make the move to “the blue brand” in exchange for future draft consideration.
USA selected both Bliss and Cross separately on the first night of the WWE Draft, putting them on the same brand with The Kabuki Warriors. The two have unfinished business with the currents champions, who defeated them with the green mist at Hell in a Cell.
Interestingly, WWE is treating this trade more like a real free agency move you would see in football or basketball. This is in line with Fox’s plan to treat SmackDown like a legitimate.
At the very least, this presentation adds something new to sports entertainment and makes WWE Backstage into a go-to for wrestling news.
The move makes Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross official members of the SmackDown roster. The two made appearances on the show frequent appearance of the brand this year due to the wild card rule.
This trade is interesting because it immediately puts them on a collision course with Bayley and Sasha Banks, who is also on SmackDown now. The four women have a history together, particularly Bliss and Banks.
So, this gives the team an instant feud for the future, which could be a good sign for the women’s tag division.
