Five women who could dethrone Shayna Baszler

As of today, Shayna Baszler has been champion for close to a year. She is currently the only woman to become a 2-time NXT Women’s Champion on a list of star-studded titleholders which includes Sasha Banks, Asuka, and Charlotte Flair.

After recapturing the title from Kairi Sane last year at WWE’s first all-female pay-per-view event, WWE Evolution, women have lined up to take on Shayna to no avail.

The former MMA fighter has successfully retained her title against the likes of Bianca Belair, Io Shirai, Mia Yim, and Candice LaRae. The matches were good, but Baszler’s hand continues to be raised as champ.

Unlike the titles on the main roster, NXT Championship reigns feel significant, and when it changes hands it means something. When Baszler made history with the most reigns, we knew that she was going to leave the NXT women’s division all clamoring for the top spot.

It makes sense that Shayna has been a dominant heel champion for as long as she has. But it may be time for her to drop it to some new blood. It’s time to build new stars.

Championship matches against other top talent are becoming predictable. Imagine the pop on the weekly show or the next Takeover when Baszler finally loses the title.

The premiere on the USA Network could mean building a new bonafide star, who is able to dethrone Shayna. Who should that woman be?

Here are five women who could take the NXT Women’s Championship from Shayna Baszler.
