MLW announces Zeda Zhang’s first opponent

Recently, Major League Wrestling (MLW) announced that their women’s division will debut next month at Blood & Thunder. Today, they revealed Zeda Zhang’s opponent will be “The Spider Lady.”

Longtime wrestling fan will recognize the ring name from the infamous WWF Women’s Championship match at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 23, 1985. At the show, Wendi Richter took on the “The Spider Lady,” who turned out to be The Fabulous Moolah in disguise.

Moolah pinned Richter with a small package. Then, the referee counted to three and granted her the win via pinfall, even though Wendi’s shoulder was up before he got to two.

The controversial finish became known as the “The Original Screwjob.” Richter recounted the incident in the final episode of VICELAND’s docuseries—Dark Side Of The Ring.

Here’s MLW’s official press release.
