Stardom announces show day of Wrestle Kingdom, has new champion

Earlier today, Stardom announced a new World of Stardom Champion, along with the announcement that they would hold a show on the day of Wrestle Kingdom.

Stardom had a show at Korakuen Hall today, where Mayu Iwatani defeated Bea Priestly for the World of Stardom Championship. It wasn’t the only news Stardom had to offer, either.

During match recaps, Stardom announced they would hold a show at Ryogoku KFC Hall at 12:00 pm JST, Jan. 4. The date also marks New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 14, at the Tokyo Dome, in Tokyo. Stardom assured followers that the ride from Ryogoku KFC Hall was only a short 10-minute straight-shot ride from Tokyo Dome.

The announcement comes after news dropped last month that NJPW’s parent company Bushiroad acquired the all-women’s joshi promotion. Fans were concerned that Stardom would be absorbed into NJPW, but executives reassured them that Stardom would stay intact, with the same name and leadership.

Wrestle Kingdom marks the 29th Jan. 4 Tokyo Dome, the 14th promoted under the Wrestle Kingdom name. Wrestle Kingdom 14 happens Jan. 4 and 5, starting 5:00 p.m. JST.

Stardom’s show happens Jan. 4 at 12:00 p.m. JST. The show’s name, format, or card has not been released.
