Tonight, WWE announced that Rhea Ripley will finally get her shot at the NXT Women’s Champion in two weeks when she challenges Shayna Baszler.
This match-up has been picking up steam since Ripley made her debut on the Aug. 28 episode of NXT. The inaugural NXT UK Women’s Champion came out to confront Baszler, and their rivalry has been heavily featured on the show ever since.
At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, Ripley fought from underneath and pinned the champion to win the first-ever women’s WarGames match. On the next night, she led Team NXT to victory at Survivor Series.
After such a big weekend, it was easy to assume Rhea Ripley was next in line for an NXT Women’s Championship match.
On tonight’s episode, she was set to face Dakota Kai, who defected from her team at WarGames. Instead, Kai brawled with Mia Yim backstage. Meanwhile, Baszler and her fellow Horsewomen jumped Ripley in the ring.
“The Submission Magician” choked her out with the help of her stablemates. Then, she said Ripley doesn’t know what she’s asking for and she wants this match too. So, Rhea will get her shot in two weeks.
