No. 1 Contender’s Match scheduled for AEW Dynamite

On next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Kris Statlander will take on Britt Baker to determine the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

The winner of the match will move on to challenge the champion, Riho, on the Jan. 1 episode.

AEW recently confirmed that they signed Statlander. Last week, she picked up her first singles win against Hikaru Shida, making her undefeated with a record of 1-0.

Shida and Baker have an identical singles record at 3-2. However, this announcement could cause some controversy because Shida is ranked no. 1 on the women’s power ranking.

Although Statlander defeated Shida to position herself for the next title shot, Nyla Rose would qualify for this match because she is second on the ranking. Unfortunately, Rose was suspended for the remainder of the year without pay because she attacked Shanna last week.

Since Baker has the next best record, she qualifies for the Number One Contender’s Match. Britt was one win away participating in AEW’s first women’s title match, but Bea Priestley cost her the win in the women’s Casino Battle Royale.

Still, she became Riho’s first challenger for the AEW Women’s World Championship on the Oct. 16 episode of AEW Dynamite. It was a losing effort but this could be her chance for a rematch.
