As 2019 comes to a close, so does a decade of the most influential moments in the history of women’s wrestling. Women broke barriers and accomplished firsts that were long yearned for as female athletes took over the division.
At the beginning of the decade, change from the Attitude Era was occurring. The matches were a bit longer and they weren’t as focused on sex appeal as the decade before. This was thanks to Trish Status and Lita paving the way for the next generation of women
This decade we saw a Divas Revolution which became the Women’s Revolution. Matches that were strictly for men like TLC, Hell in a Cell and Royal Rumble now featured women. The WWE Women’s Championship replaced the butterfly Divas Championship belt 2016. As 2019 comes to an end, we now have the Raw and SmackDown Championship, as well as the WWE Tag Team Championship.
The culmination of the Women’s Revolution came when women headlined WrestleMania for the first time ever this year.
With so many historic moments to recount, let’s take a look at the top five women’s matches of the decade.
