Kris Statlander defeated Britt Baker to become the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship.
On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, Statlander and Baker faced off in a Number One Contender’s match. After a big win against Hikaru Shika, she skyrocketed to the top of the women’s power ranking.
Yesterday, “The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” picked up another victory over Bea Priestley on AEW Dark. Meanwhile, Baker clawed her way back up the ranking to earn this opportunity and she has a lot to prove.
Britt tried to cinch in the Lockjaw several times but Statlander continuously fought out of it using her superior strength. These two had a solid match, which really picked up towards the end.
The finish came when Statlander went for a discus elbow but Baker countered it and transitioned into the Lockjaw. Then, Kris rose to her feet and reversed it into her finisher, the Big Bang Theory, to put Baker away.
After the match, Brandi Rhodes and The Nightmare Collective confronted Statlander again. Rhodes tried to get her to join them for a second time. When she refused, Brandi gouged her eye with her high heel shoe, seemingly putting her title match in jeopardy.
Nevertheless, Kris Statlander is scheduled to challenge Riho for the AEW Women’s World Championship in two weeks in Jacksonville, FL.
