Rhea Ripley is the new NXT Women’s Champion

During tonight’s episode of NXT, Rhea Ripley defeated Shayna Baszler to become the new NXT Women’s Champion.

Rhea Ripley and the defending Shayna Baszler faced each other for the title in a brutal main event. Towards the beginning of the match, Baszler gave a stomp to Ripley’s arm, which was laying on the stairs leading to the ring. A potential interference from Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke was stopped by Ripley. Baszler had Ripley in her Kirifuda clutch, on the verge of passing out.

The Australian Superstar overcame all of the obstacles, however, and delivered an avalanche Riptide from the second turnbuckle for the win.

The feud between the two started in August, when Ripley invaded NXT to remind Baszler she hasn’t beaten everyone in the women’s division. Later, despite the unsavory 2-on-4 odds, Ripley’s team beat out Team Baszler at NXT TakeOver: WarGames.

Baszler’s reign lasted for 415 days; the second longest, behind Asuka. The Queen of Spades held the title for a combined 547 days, last winning the belt at 2018’s Evolution.
