Riho retains AEW Women’s title in Homecoming four-way

Riho retained her title in a four-way match on a special edition of AEW Dynamite, but there was one star that shined brighter than the champ’s.

AEW Dynamite: Homecoming Edition took place where AEW calls “home”; at the Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, Florida. During the special episode, a fatal four-way took place for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Riho, Hikaru Shida, Nyla Rose, and Britt Baker took part in the special New Year’s match.

Though the fast-paced match ended with a retain, the wrestler AEW dubbed as “most experienced in the match”, Shida, really shined, making a case for the veteran to get her proper push within the promotion. Even after Shida hung on the ropes for what seemed like forever, waiting for a hit from the top rope from Rose.

In predictable fashion, Rose had a few solid strength spots. The match was the second AEW title shot for Britt Baker, who improved greatly, getting superkicks in that looked painful. Riho went to the air during most of her moves, and Shida got a good mix of different moves in, including the brutal use of a kendostick.

Eventually, Riho used her quickness to her advantage, and got Baker in a roll-up to secure the pinfall.

After the match, Rose threw a fit, and splashed from the top rope into Riho, who was planted on a table.

Riho will next defend her title against Kris Statlander on AEW’s Anniversary Episode of Dynamite, next Wednesday, at the normal time and place.
