In an untelevised exhibition match, Mayu Iwatani and Arisa Hoshiki took on Hana Kimura and Giulia at Wrestle Kingdom 14.
Although it was only available to the live crowd, this is a historic moment. It marks the first time women’s match to appear at New Japan’s biggest show of the year.
At Wrestle Kingdom 14, The World of Stardom Champion, Mayu Iwatani, teamed up with the Wonder of Stardom Champion, Arisa Hoshiki, to face Hana Kimura and Giulia.
Giulia and Kimura recently fought to a draw at the 2019 Year-End Climax, leaving many to question how this team would work together. So, the story of this match was that they unsurprisingly couldn’t get along.
Kimura inadvertently hit her partner with a missile dropkick, leaving her open for Iwatani to put her away with a moonsault.
It will be interesting to see how the match was received by the Tokyo Dome crowd. It’s unclear if it will ever be available on NJPW World or Stardom World.
Nevertheless, this is a monumental move, which could be a could be a good sign for future cross-promotional shows.
