After nearly 20 years spent primarily on the indie circuit, veteran Mercedes Martinez has reportedly signed with WWE.
According to a report from SoCal Uncensored, Martinez has signed a contract with WWE, and will report to the Performance Center in Orlando, later this month.
Martinez debuted in 2000, after she sustained an injury playing basketball. Since her debut, Martinez has worked almost every year of her 19-year tenure, only taking a brief hiatus during the year of 2015. In 2019, Martinez wrestled 65 matches for 26 different independent promotions.
The veteran doesn’t seem to slow down, holding 30 title reigns and competing in over 80 different promotions, during her career.
Mercedes was the standout at AEW’s All Out pre-show, The Buy In, where she participated in the women’s Casino Battle Royal in the Joker spot. She also teamed with Big Swole for a tag match during an AEW Dark episode, prompting many to wonder if AEW was going to offer Martinez a contract.
In November, Martinez made it to the very end of Pro Wrestling EVE’s SHE-1 Series, defeated by Millie McKenzie in the finals. The overachiever recently won the SHINE Title at SHINE 63, defeating previous champion Allysin Kay.
The report has not been officially confirmed, but this would not be Martinez’s first appearance at WWE. Martinez appeared on an episode of WWE Heat in 2006, participated in the 2017 and 2018 Mae Young Classic, and has wrestled three television matches for NXT.
Bell To Belles has reached out to Martinez and several others close to her to confirm the report. We’ll update this story, as needed.
