Recently, Triple H discussed the possibility of both Paige and Edge returning to the ring this year with Gary Cassidy of Sportskeeda.
During the interview, the Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative made an off-color joke.
Fans have speculated that Paige will return to in-ring competition since a report surfaced that she has a big announcement for WWE Backstage. She even joked about the rumors on Twitter.
In the clip above, Triple H spoke on the chances of her coming back anytime soon. He said it’s a “medical decision” but went on to reference Daniel Bryan’s situation as to say anything is possible.
Then, he talked about his hopes that Paige and Edge have a good quality of life outside of the ring.
“More importantly than that [returning to the ring], though, I would like to see them live long healthy lives. You know, Edge has kids. Paige – maybe. She probably has some she doesn’t know of, but um…”
There was some merit to the first half of his statement but the joke has sparked some controversy. So much so, that Paige responded to the clip. “Even my boss jokes about me…no wonder you guys still do it too,” she said.
Later, her colleague, Renee Young, came to her defense via Twitter. The Bella Twins also seemed to reference the incident on their account.
Paige was forced to retire in April of 2018. Last year, she signed a multi-year contract with WWE but she has still faced her share of struggles since she stepped away from wrestling.
The former WWE Divas Champion made a salient point about the situation. After everything Paige has been through, Triple H could be more sensitive.
