Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Tessa Blanchard was at the center of two of the biggest stories in wrestling this weekend. The conflicting emotions around her historic world title win won’t go away anytime soon. However, it also inadvertently cast a huge shadow over the IMPACT’s Knockouts division.

Many fans assumed Jordynne Grace would finally end Taya Valkyrie‘s record-setting 373-day reign. However, La Wera Loca managed to slink away again with the newly updated title.

Grace was seconds away from becoming the new IMPACT Knockout Champion when Valkyrie snuck in to steal the win. At any rate, Taya pinned ODB so one would assume Grace is still the biggest threat to her tenure as champion.

Still, this does beg the question: what is left for Valkyrie to do with the title and who will beat her? That isn’t to say she hasn’t been a great champion. As a matter of fact, she has been exceptional as an illusive heel titleholder. There has to be some kind of payoff eventually though, right?

Hard To Kill seemed like the perfect time for Valkyrie to finally get her comeuppance. Still, this sets up for an inevitable one-on-one match with Grace. If Blanchard’s win this weekend proved anything, it’s that IMPACT can handle long-form storytelling pretty well.

So, what’s next for the Knockout division? Will someone else enter the title picture in the meantime? There’s certainly no shortage of talent with the likes of Tenille Dashwood, Kiera Hogan, Rosemary, and Jessicka Havok. None of them have been built up as credible contenders though.

Perhaps this will lead to another first for the company. After her win on Sunday, Valkyrie said she is the first person in line to challenge Blanchard if she wins. The longest reigning Knockouts Champion, and current Knockout of the Year, undeniably has some claim to a champion vs. champion match.

After all, she defeated Blanchard to win the title and she successfully defended it against her as well. Even more, it would be an interesting way to reignite their rivalry with each woman’s roles flipped.

Seeing the IMPACT World and Knockouts Champion compete in a match would be a landmark occasion but what would be the endgame? Putting both titles on either woman seems unlikely.

Also, it would be kind of anticlimactic for some fans to see Blanchard rise to the top of the roster just to go back to wrestling Valkyrie. The main event of Hard to Kill was such a big win for intergender wrestling that it would admittedly be a little jarring.

Nevertheless, there is still load of potential there. If executed well, it could be an exciting program that could elevate Taya Valkyrie even more, as well. Moreover, that is a main event caliber match up.

This would add more prestige to Valkyrie’s reign, which will mint the woman who eventually beats her. Of course, IMPACT has to keep building secondary feuds for the Knockouts for that to work. So, it’s sort of a win-win.

In some ways, IMPACT’s Knockouts division is in a great place. On the other hand, there are still so many questions. For now, we will have to wait and see how this turns out.
