Yesterday, WWE confirmed that they signed Mercedes Martinez. Now we know she will make her network television debut on this week’s episode of NXT.
Ryan Satin broke the news on WWE Backstage. Mercedes Martinez will compete in this week’s women’s battle royal for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.
That’s a quick turnaround but “The Latina Sensation” is a seasoned veteran so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they feel she is ready. Also, most WWE fans are already familiar with her because she took part in the 2017 and 2018 Mae Young Classic.
The Full Sail audience will recognize her as well because she appeared on a few episodes of NXT.
Martinez will join Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Dakota Kai, Bianca Belair, Vanessa Borne, Mia Yim, Xia Li, Io Shirai, Kayden Carter, Shotzi Blackheart, Santana Garrett in a battle royal to determine the next number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Rhea Ripley is already scheduled to defend her title against Toni Storm during Royal Rumble weekend at Worlds Collide. So, the winner of the battle royal will challenge either Ripley or Storm at NXT TakeOver: Portland next month.
