It would seem that Japanese star, Io Shirai, suffered a knee injury on this week’s episode of NXT.
As reported earlier this week on the NXT Injury Report, Shirai “tweaked her knee” after her match with Toni Storm. During the post-match brawl, “The Genius of the Sky” appeared to twist her knee after she took a dive from Storm.
She was notably clutching her knee afterward. Her status was initially day-to-day, as they continued to evaluate her. Shirai was scheduled for an MRI this week.
However, the injury may be more serious than officials originally believed. Today, Io Shirai posted a picture of a knee brace on Twitter, leading many to believe her injury may cause her to miss some time.
It’s still unclear what this really means and how the sever injury really is. Hopefully, this will be a swift recovery for Shirai and she will return soon.
Still, it’s a bad sign for those expecting to see her make her second Royal Rumble appearance this weekend. It’s probably not worth the risk if she is dealing with a sprain or a major tear.
Update: According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the exact injury is not known, but Shirai will be sidelined for two months.
