Update (1/27/20 3:50pm EST): According to James Stewart of the Wrestling Inside The Ropes podcast, Sasha Banks is sidelined with a hip injury. Banks re-aggravated the same hip she injured at Hell in a Cell this past October. It’s reported the new injury occurred when Dana Brooke hit Banks with a Senton during a tag match on the Jan. 3 episode of SmackDown.
Sasha Banks was a potential front-runner to win last night’s Royal Rumble, but never entered the match.
According to Fightful, Banks was not cleared to wrestle due to an injury. The injury and severity hasn’t been confirmed, but Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue points to an ankle injury.
Banks has dealt with numerous injuries over the course of her career, including concussions and back issues.
The last time Banks wrestled was on the Jan. 3 episode of SmackDown, when she and Bayley faced the teams of Lacey Evans and Dana Brooke, and Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss. “The Boss” was also advertised to face Evans on two separate occasions, but the matches were scrapped.
Many hope the injury doesn’t keep her on the shelf too long, with the journey down the road to WrestleMania already in progress. Murmurs suggest Sasha Banks and Bayley will meet in the ring at this year’s “show of shows” in Tampa.
The Queen, Charlotte Flair, won yesterday’s women’s Royal Rumble match after entering as entrant no. 17, lasting over 26 minutes, and eliminating Bianca Belair, Kelly Kelly, Sarah Logan, and Shayna Baszler.
