Nyla Rose wins the AEW Women’s World Championship

On tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Nyla Rose upset Riho to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion.

Rose has been making her way back up to the top of the women’s Power Ranking since last year. Two weeks ago, she defeated Big Swole to earn a rematch again the Riho. Last week, she slammed the champion back first on a table during a backstage to send a clear message.

As such, tonight’s match got off to a hot start as Riho took the fight to Rose, keeping her in her own corner. “The Native Beast” eventually overpowered her but the champion remained aggressive throughout the bout.

Riho matched the challenger’s intensity unlike she did in their first match, where she mostly used her speed and ingenuity. There were examples of that here too as she executed her trademark crucifix to no avail.

At one point, Nyla Rose tried to beat the AEW Women’s World Champion with her friend, Kenny Omega’s, finisher—The One-Winged Angel. In response, Riho caught her with a pair of snap dragon suplexes, which is Omega’s signature move.

The final sequence was excellent with multiple counters and near falls but Nyla gained the advantage when she stunned the champion with a spear. Then, she put her away with the Beast Bomb to become both the first transgender and black AEW Women’s World Champion.

In fact, the win makes Nyla Rose the first transgender woman to hold a world title at a major American promotion.
