Monday night, AEW officially announced the next women’s title match. At AEW Revolution, Kris Statlander will challenge the new champion, Nyla Rose.
“The Native Beast” has run roughshod on the women’s division since last year. This year she shot up to the top of the Power Rankings and beat Big Swole to earn another title shot.
Two weeks ago, Rose pulled an upset to defeat the inaugural champion, Riho, on the Feb. 12 episode of Dynamite. Not to rest on her laurels, Nyla made it clear on the last episode that she will continue to run through every woman on the roster.
Her promo prompted a confrontation with Big Swole and Kris Statlander. According to the last Power Rankings, Statlander is second to Riho with one win and one loss in 2020.
In that case, she is next in line for a title opportunity in the former champion’s absence. “The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” seemed poised to be next champion after the winning streak she went on last year but she fell short to Riho earlier this year. She will get a second chance this weekend.
AEW Revolution will take place this Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL.
