Taya Valkyrie to challenge for the IMPACT world title

Next week, Tessa Blanchard and Taya Valkyrie will make history as the first women to compete in an IMPACT World Championship match.

Taya Valkyrie has been gunning for Tessa Blanchard since she won the world title at Hard to Kill. After she successfully retained the Knockouts Championship, she declared that she was next in line for a shot at the IMPACT World Championship.

Many fans assumed this would set up a champion vs. champion match. However, Jordynne Grace recently defeated “La Wera Loca” to end her record-setting title reign.

This hasn’t deterred Valkyrie, who believes she made history not Blanchard as the longest-reigning Knockouts Champion. The two have a storied rivalry. In fact, Valkyrie defeated Blanchard at Homecoming 2019 to kick off her 377-day reign.

Recently, she and Ace Austin defeated Blanchard and Trey Miguel in a tag match on the Jan. 21 episode of Impact! Last night, Valkyrie cost Tessa the X-Division title when she interfered in her match Austin, ending the match with a disqualification.

On Wednesday morning, IMPACT announced that Taya Valkyrie and Tessa Blanchard will settle their issues next Tuesday, Mar. 3 in a world title match. In addition, Su Yung will take on Havok in a No Disqualification match.
