On tonight’s episode NXT, Mia Yim became the second woman to qualify for the No. 1 Contender’s Ladder Match scheduled for TakeOver: Tampa
Yim took on Dakota Kai, who was accompanied by Raquel Gonzalez. These women have a history together a Kai attacked Mia last year to replace her in the first women’s WarGame match. This set up a match between the two on Dec. 11.
After a brief feeling-out process, Yim dominated early on tonight until Gonzalez attacked her from behind. Kai quickly took control and eventually hit the “HBIC” with the Kairopractor. However, Yim managed to kick out at two to survive.
Mia fought her way back into the match and caught Dakota as she attempted a face wash to plant her with a powerbomb. As she leveraged it into a pin, Gonzalez interfered again to stop the count.
Despite the odd, Mia Yim pulled out a win to punch her ticket to NXT TakeOver: Tampa. She will join Tegan Nox, who defeated Deonna Purrazo with the Shiniest Wizard later.
Last week, Chelsea Green defeated Shotzi Blackheart to qualify for the first spot, leaving three remaining.
NXT TakeOver: Tampa will take place on Saturday, Apr. 4 at the Amalie Arena.
