Dakota Kai is the sixth and final competitor in the upcoming Number One Contender’s Ladder Match.
On tonight’s episode of NXT, Kai, Xia Li, Kayden Carter, Aliyah, Shotzi Blackheart, and Deonna Purrazzo competed in the Second Chance Gauntlet Match for the last spot.
Straight away, Blackheart was the star of the match. First, she eliminated Purrazzo. Then, she forced Xia Li to submit to move on to the third round.
Next, Shotzi racked up another elimination via submission on Aliyah. Then, “The Ballsy Badass” continued her hot streak as she took out Carter, who put on a gutsy performance.
With four participants down, she entered the final round exhausted to face Dakota Kai, who was accompanied by Raquel Gonzalez. “The Captain of Team Kick” quickly cornered Blackheart.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez got involved and attacked Shotzi while the’s referee’s back was turned. Still, Blackheart managed to survive and it looked like she got her second wind as she took out Kai and Gonzalez with a suicide dive.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough because Raquel caused a distraction, which set Blackheart up for the GTK. So, Dakota Kai will move on to participate in the Number One Contender’s Ladder Match with Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, Tegan Nox, Io Shirai, and Candice LeRae.
The match will take place next Wednesday on the Apr. 8 episode of NXT. The winner will earn a shot at the NXT Women’s Champion, following the title match this weekend at WrestleMania 36.
