On next week’s episode of NXT, Io Shirai will use her title shot to challenge Charlotte Flair for the NXT Women’s Championship.
Shirai outlasted five other women in a ladder match on the Apr. 8 episode to become the new number one contender. The win meant that she earned a chance to challenge the NXT Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair.
Flair stunned Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania 36 win the title and become the second two-time champion in its seven-year history. Tonight, she faced Mia Yim in a non-title match.
Flair squashed in her NXT debut on Oct. 23, 2014. This time around Yim lasted much longer but “The Queen” was still too much for her. In the end, the “HBIC” went for the Protect Ya Neck. However, Flair transitioned into the Figure Eight and forced her to tap out.
Afterward, Shirai came down to the confront the champion. “Charlotte, next week, You are mine,” she exclaimed as she went to the back.
So, Io Shirai vs. Charlotte Flair will take place next Wednesday. Will “The Queen” survived her first defense?
