On Wednesday, Jim Ross announced that Hikaru Shida will be Nyla Rose’s next opponent at AEW Double or Nothing 2020.
It has been an outstanding year for Hikaru Shida, who is currently on a winning streak.
Tonight, she competed in a Fatal Four-Way match with Britt Baker, Kris Statlander, and Penelope Ford. Shida picked up another win when she nailed Ford with a backbreaker and finished her off with a knee strike.
The victory earned her a shot a the AEW Women’s World Championship at the next pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing.
Last year, Shida was one match away from facing Nyla Rose for the chance to become the inaugural champion. Unfortunately, she came up short and Riho moved on to win the vacant title.
On Wednesday, All Elite Wrestling announced that Hikaru Shida will be Nyla Rose’s next opponent AEW Double or Nothing 2020. The bout will be a No Disqualification/Countout match. In addition, Britt Baker will take on Kris Statlander on The Buy In.
Back in January, Hikaru unsuccessfully challenged Riho for the AEW Women’s World Championship in a Fatal Four-Way match. After suffering one of her only two losses this year, Shida went on to win eight matches in a row and stake her claim as the next top contender.
During a post-match interview, Rose attacked her new challenger and revealed that she was the one who took her trademark kendo stick.
AEW Double or Nothing 2020 will take place on Saturday, May 23 at 8 pm EST. The event will be available on on Fite TV and B/R Live.
