IMPACT has quietly assembled a deep and diverse women’s division. On Tuesday, their newest signing, Tasha Steelz, formed an alliance with Kiera Hogan. This inspired the realization that the company should take steps to reactivate the IMPACT Knockouts tag titles.
You might be saying to yourself that’s a big leap after only two women teamed up on this week’s episode of IMPACT!. The company reportedly deactivated the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship because they didn’t have enough women to compete for them. However, that isn’t the case anymore.
It has been almost seven years since Brooke Hogan stripped the last champions, Eric Young and ODB, of the titles. Young, the first man to hold one of the belts, and ODB won them when they defeated Gail Kim and Madison Rayne on Feb. 28, 2012.
They went on to become the longest-reigning TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions. The couple held the titles for 469 days, but they only defended them twice during that time. Both times, they retained against the former champions, Rosita (WWE’s Zelina Vega) and Sarita—Mexican America.
Before that, the titles were active for four years with nine different flagbearers. The division featured popular teams like The Beautiful People—Lacey Von Erich, Madison Rayne, and Velvet Sky—and TnT, Brooke Tessmacher and Tara.
Now is the perfect time to reactivate the IMPACT Knockouts tag titles and put together some new tag teams. After all, They have a wealth of talented women who have experience working tag matches. For instance, Kiera Hogan and Diamante are the current WOW Tag Team Champions.
IMPACT also just brought in two women who were a part of SHIMMER’s excellent tag team division, Neveah and Kimber Lee. Neveah was one half of the inaugural SHIMMER Tag Team Champions. Meanwhile, Lee teamed with Cherry Bomb to form The Kimber Bombs, who held both the SHIMMER and SHINE tag titles.
Even more, Neveah and Havok competed in the finals of the tournament for the vacant WOW Tag Team Championship in November. The duo, known as The Killer Death Machines, is also the reigning Guardians of RISE Champions.
In addition, this would give Jordynne Grace and Tessa Blanchard the opportunity to challenge for the Knockouts tag titles someday. In October, Grace expressed interest in challenging for the Impact World Tag Team Championship in an interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.
“So, me and Tessa, we really, really want a tag team and we wanna challenge for the tag team titles. And I think Ethan Page and Josh Alexander, I think it would just be an incredible match. I think it would blow it out of the park. And I think that’d be awesome to see. I don’t know if they’ve ever had an intergender tag championship match like that, but I think it’d be really cool.”
This could be the first step towards putting together this dream team. It’s not exactly in the capacity that Grace wanted to see it happen in but there are still so many possibilities. Eventually adding Jordynne and Blanchard to their new tag division should be enough pique most fans’ interest.
Now that WWE finally brought back their Women’s Tag Team Championship the door is wide open. Hopefully, there is some internal discussion about how to re-establish the IMPACT Knockouts tag titles. If not, there should be.
