IMPACT announced that they have terminated their contract with Tessa Blanchard and stripped her of the Impact World Championship.
This news comes as a shock because Blanchard was scheduled to defend her title at Slammiversary. However, it appears her relationship with the company has soured over the last few weeks.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider broke the news on Thursday night after Blanchard failed to send recorded promos from Mexico for the June 1 episode of IMPACT!.
IMPACT issued the following statement:
“Impact Wrestling confirmed that it has terminated its relationship with Tessa Blanchard and stripped her of the Impact Wrestling World Championship.”
Tessa Blanchard hasn’t appeared on television since her tag title match against The North on Mar. 7. Since she has been in quarantine in Mexico with her fiance, Daga, during the pandemic crisis caused by COVID-19.
Apparently, the third generation star was supposed to participate in a satellite interview with Josh Mathews. IMPACT scrapped the segment when they didn’t receive promos from Blanchard.
Johnson also reported the company attempted to get Blanchard to return to drop the title. Once those negotiations fell apart, they chose to terminate her contract and vacate the belt.
This is a rather sordid and unexpected end to such a historic title win. IMPACT will be forced to change the upcoming World Championship match now that Michael Elgin and Blanchard won’t be involved.
