Joshi legend, Emi Sakura, announced today on a YouTube livestream she will celebrate twenty-five years since her in-ring debut in an upcoming episode of ChocoPro LIVE.
The stream, which began just after 8 p.m. JST, revealed the dates for the first five episodes of ChocoPro’s third season. The Twenty-Fifth Anniversary Show will air live on Gatoh Move’s YouTube channel on Monday, Aug. 17 at 8 p.m. JST.
Emi Sakura, the founder of Ice Ribbon and Gatoh Move, is one of the most respected wrestlers in joshi puroresu. She founded the former promotion in 2006, left in 2012, and formed the latter later that year.
Gatoh Move is primarily a Joshi promotion, but regularly features intergender matches and even men’s singles matches between male freelancers. The promotion is well-known for its blend of high-quality puro, absurdist comedy, and musical theatre. Its breakout star was Riho, who Emi Sakura challenged unsuccessfully for AEW Women’s World Championship at AEW Full Gear.
Emi Sakura began airing live shows on YouTube on Mar. 29, 2020 under the title “ChocoPro LIVE”. The no-audience shows are live-streamed from the world’s smallest wrestling venue and a regular host of Gatoh Move shows, Ichigaya Chocolate Square.
Each episode features between one and three matches and mostly involves the Gatoh Move roster, with appearances from DDT performers like Antonio Honda and freelancers like Minoru Fujita. Special guests in the show’s first season included Minoru Suzuki in the first episode, Masato Tanaka in the fifth and ASUKA in the sixteenth. The second season recently concluded with the main event fight between Emi Sakura and her ChocoPro tag team partner Lulu Pencil.
