On Monday’s episode of RAW, Asuka defeated Bayley to earn a rematch against Sasha Banks for the Raw Women’s Championship at WWE SummerSlam.
“The Golden Role Models” have been a thorn in Asuka’s side since Banks challenged her in the weeks leading to Extreme Rules. At the event, she and Bayley took possession of the Raw women’s title after a controversial finish.
This led to a rematch on the July 27 episode of RAW where “The Empress of Tomorrow” officially lost the title when she ran backstage to save Kairi Sane. Last week, she sought revenge and Banks said she would grant her a rematch if she could beat Bayley.
This week, “The Role Model” put on a clinic with Asuka. At one point, “Empress of Tomorrow” went for a roundhouse kick. However, the SmackDown Women’s Champion countered it and transitioned into an Ankle Lock.
From then on, she and Sasha targeted her leg but it wasn’t enough as Asuka continued to fight her way back into the match. In the end, Bayley used an elbow drop to mock Asuka’s former tag team partner and tried to use her trademark sliding elbow.
Then, suddenly, Asuka jumped up, countered, and locked in the Asuka Lock to punch her ticket to SummerSlam. She is one step closer to regaining the Raw Women’s Championship.
“The Biggest Party of the Summer” will take place on Sunday, Aug. 23. The event will stream live on the WWE Network.
