At WWE Payback 2020, best friends Sasha Banks and Bayley dropped the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax.
During the fast-paced brawl, Baszler locked in an Indian Death Lock on Banks, and using Banks’ arm, got Bayley into the deadly Kirifuda Clutch. Bayley eventually tapped out, leaving her with just the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and leaving Banks without any titles.
On the Aug. 24 episode of Raw, WWE announced the build-a-tag-team of Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler would compete against Banks and Bayley for the titles.
Banks and Bayley were in their second reign as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champs, holding the title for 96 days after winning them back from Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss in May. They were the inaugural title holders.
This is only the second time Jax has held a WWE title, the first time being the WWE Raw Women’s Championship in 2018. This is the first title win since arriving at main roster for Baszler. Jax has been used sparingly since arriving back to WWE after a year-long absence.
