In collaboration with PWI, Bell To Belles interviewed over 20 women who have ranked on this year’s PWI Women’s 100 ranking. Bell To Belles will release one interview per day, celebrating the past year in women’s wrestling and the strong women who dedicate their lives to the sport.

Jamie Hayter, who ranked #47 on this year’s Women’s 100, spoke with Kristen Ashly of Bell To Belles regarding her last year in wrestling, Hana Kimura’s legacy, and a desire to appear on AEW again.

Japanese wrestler Hana Kimura left the world too soon, earlier this year. Hayter worked with Kimura in Stardom, and she shared what Kimura meant to her, explaining how she feels the wrestling industry can best honor her.

Hana was a very special person to me and many others who had the privilege of knowing her and working with her. A truly beautiful soul and a one-of-a-kind talent in the ring. Her charisma really was untouchable, and she was authentically herself, always. She said so herself: ‘Everybody is different, everybody is special’. We should honor Hana by remembering the incredible performer that she was, and taking a leaf out of her book and being compassionate, understanding and kind to everybody.

In October and November of last year, Hayter appeared on two episodes of AEW Dynamite, competing against Britt Baker, and teaming up with Emi Sakura to defeat Riho and Shanna. Though COVID has put a halt on international travel, Hayter was asked if she had any plans of returning to an AEW stage.

Good question! I wish I could answer that with a solid ‘yes’ or ‘no’ answer, but I honestly have no idea. I’d love to go back to AEW when the world isn’t burning.

Hayter spent the majority of her last year tearing it up in Stardom successfully, even snagging the Goddesses of Stardom Championship with Bea Priestley. Hayter shared how it was working within Stardom and her favorite moments, over that time.

Honestly? I couldn’t pick just one. The whole year was my favorite moment. Thinking back, it really makes my heart skip a beat. I couldn’t have asked for a better year professionally, especially at a company I truly love working with, surrounded by hardworking and talented women. It’s inspiring. And it’s really made me to work much harder. It was hard at times, mentally and physically, but I really feel I flourished in those difficult moments and will continue to do so.

Also over the last year, Hayter held the SWA Undisputed World Women’s Championship and the EVE International Championship. The five-year veteran was asked if there were any other titles she has her eyes set on, when wrestling returns to a closer version of normal.

Every single one I could possibly get my mitts on. I’m ready to step it up to the next level, so hopefully there will be some opportunities for a title reign or two in the not too distant future. I’m patient, it’ll happen when it happens. But if I’m honest, I do have my eye on one of the main belts in Stardom at this moment in time.

Finally, Hayter shared her future goals and plans, assuming a resemblance of normal will return to the wrestling scene sooner than later.

I feel in the last year I have really found my groove with wrestling. I know how I work, what works best for me. I take it all incredibly seriously. I am doing everything in my power to really be known for my work in professional wrestling. It’s the love of my life. 

I have many, many goals for wrestling. Probably too many to list and it’s ever-changing. I’d love to see my career continue to progress and for me to be consistently happy with my work, and for my peers to be, also. To be able to prove myself, and my passion and love for wrestling. To evoke true emotion from wrestling fans when they watch my matches. Of course like all of us, I’d love to be signed somewhere and wrestle on a bigger platform for a more broader audience. I want to do this for as long as I possibly can, in all the places I can.
