Today, via Twitter, Allyisn Kay announced her free agency and return to the independent circuit.
In the tweet she posted late Monday evening, Kay stated the following:
“As of today, I am officially a free agent. Thank you to the NWA for the opportunities, which included one of my favorite matches of my career. I am open for indy bookings & appearances. Let’s get weird.”
-Allysin Kay
Kay first appeared in a NWA event in 2012, teaming with Taylor Made in a losing effort to Amazing Kong and Jazz at NWA FUW Underground Shines. In April 2019, Kay returned to challenge for the vacant NWA World Women’s Championship, defeating Santana Garrett at The Crockett Cup 2019 to become the NWA World Women’s Champion.
Starting in last year in September, Kay appeared weekly for NWA during their YouTube program NWA Powerrr as a part of their women’s division, alongside Marti Belle, Ashley Vox, and Thunder Rosa. Rosa eventually stripped Kay of the belt in January during NWA’s pay-per-view event, NWA Hard Times. Kay would challenge for the title one more time in January. A few months later, the promotion put a halt to all events and programming after allegations from the Speaking Out movement came forward, and COVID-19 placed hardships on the promotion.
Rosa would defend the title several times at AEW shows, and would lose the belt to current title holder Serena Deeb during Prime Time Live #7 on Oct. 27.
Kay expressed disdain for the title switch, at that time.
As an 11-year veteran of the squared circle, Kay is a powerful addition to any women’s division, and we can’t wait to see what she’s capable of back on the indies.
