It appears the AEW women’s division will also get a chance to win an Owen Hart Cup.
Today on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan announced the previously announced Owen Hart Cup Tournament will now be two singles tournaments for the Owen Hart Cup, resulting in one men’s Cup winner, and one women’s Cup winner.
Khan stated he would have more to announce on the Dec. 17 episode of Rampage.
September, AEW announced they were partnering with the family of Hart to honor the late legend’s legacy. The collaboration with the Owen Hart Foundation was announced to include the annual tournament, the winner of which to receive “The Owen” trophy, and production of original Owen Hart merchandise.
“AEW’s relationship with the Hart family dates back to our inaugural pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing in 2019, and Owen’s influence is still felt today,” Khan shared in a company statement. “To extend his memory and his legacy even further through this agreement is a powerful and meaningful moment for the entire wrestling community.”
Khan originally said he had plans to announce information and the schedule for the highly-anticipated tournament at Dynamite: Winter is Coming. That announcement wasn’t made.
Owen Hart died in May 1999 after falling from the rafters during his entrance at the WWE pay-per-view Over The Edge. Martha Hart continues to honor Owen Hart through The Owen Hart Foundation by providing scholarships, housing, and assistance to at-risk communities around the world.
