First-ever Queen of the Mountain match set for Slammiversary

The 20th Slammiversary event celebrating IMPACT’s 20th anniversary will also include a first-ever for their Knockouts division.

During Thursday’s episode of IMPACT Wrestling, Gail Kim announced the first-ever Queen of the Mountain match will take place at Slammiversary on June 19. Five women will compete in the match for the Knockouts World Championship: current champion Tasha Steelz, Chelsea Green, Jordynne Grace, Deonna Purrazzo, and a returning Mia Yim.

The match mirrors the men’s version already established by IMPACT, the King of the Mountain match. Five wrestlers start the match as “ineligible” to win. An official possesses the title belt outside of the ring. To be eligible to win, an opponent must obtain a pinfall or submission on an opponent. Once an opponent becomes eligible, they can win the match by retrieving the title belt from the official and hang it on a hook suspended above the ring using the ladders provided. The other opponents can attempt to steal the belt and hang it themselves, once it’s in play. When an opponent submits or is pinned, they enter a cage known as the “penalty box” where they stay for two minutes. If the belt is dropped with no wrestler attempting to hang it, the official can retrieve the belt to hold, once again.

Twelve King of the Mountain matches have been held by IMPACT since the inaugural in 2004, the last King of the Mountain match airing on an episode of IMPACT Wrestling in May 2016. Initially, competitors in the match fought for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, later replaced by the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, TNA X Division Championship, and finally the TNA King of the Mountain Championship, which is now inactive. Jeff Jarrett has won the most King of the Mountain matches at three.

Slammiversary 2022 will take place on June 19 at The Asylum in Nashville, and marks IMPACT Wrestling’s 20th anniversary; the show’s date occurring exactly 20 years to the day that the first IMPACT (or TNA) event was promoted.

Catch the anniversary event streaming live June 19 at 8:00 PM EST on FITE.
