3 Takeaways from WrestleMania 36 Night 1

The women’s tag division still needs work

In the opening match, The Kabuki Warriors defended the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship against Bliss Cross Applesauce. Notably, Kairi Sane brought back her pirate-themed ring gear for the occasion like we all hoped she would.

This was a fun match that saw Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross regain the women’s tag titles and become the first two-time champions. So, what’s next for the division?

It was an interesting decision to put the titles back on Bliss and Cross. Asuka and Sane are more entertaining as a tag team at the moment. More to the point, the rivalry between the two teams didn’t have the heat that it seemed like WWE was going for.

While it was great to see the titles defended at WrestleMania again, it’s a little troubling that the company still isn’t building noteworthy storylines around them. That’s all that’s really missing at this point.

The titles need a good program to make them more than a novelty. Now that Bliss and Cross are holding the titles again, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to revisit their feud with Sasha Banks and Bayley. That would ensure that the belts would be featured heavily on SmackDown at least.
