WrestleMania 36

3 Takeaways heading into WWE WrestleMania 36

Who will challenge Bayley?

While its red counterpart is in a great position, the SmackDown Women’s Championship has been lost in the shuffle. WWE hasn’t announced a title match and no one has stepped forward as Bayley‘s next opponent.

Following Royal Rumble, Naomi seemed like an ideal candidate. However, WWE wasted her first match with Bayley on Super Showdown and she hasn’t looked as strong since.

Many fans hoped Sasha Banks would emerge as the next contender but there isn’t nearly enough time to build a feud of that magnitude. A story with that much history behind it deserves more screentime.

Recently, Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT suggested that there would be a six-pack challenge featuring Banks, Naomi, Lacey Evans, Carmella, and another unconfirmed opponent.

That makes a lot of sense but it begs the question: why didn’t WWE use the Elimination match to determine a contender? After all, everyone knew Shayna Baszler was going to challenge Becky Lynch. So, why not give the women from SmackDown some much-needed spotlight.

At any rate, the company has its work ahead of them with just two more weeks to produce something. Frankly, it’s a shame that the SmackDown Women’s Championship appears to be an afterthought because they had a number of good options. They’re in a similar predicament with the women’s tag titles.
