Another crowning moment for Rhea Ripley
At WrestleMania 36, Rhea Ripley will become the first NXT Women’s Champion to defend her title on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.” The move to Orlando kind of puts a damper on the occasion, but it’s still historic nonetheless.
She will face ten-time Women’s Champion, Charlotte Flair, in a match-up that raises many questions. WWE could believably put the title on Flair because it could offer them a momentary rating boost. Do they want to risk upsetting their core audience though?
NXT’s women’s division is so crowded as it is. Should they add someone like Charlotte to mix, who is already an established star? It hardly seems worth it in hopes that more fans will tune in on Wednesdays.
Rhea Ripley is on pace to be one of the biggest stars to come out of NXT in some time. That’s why she needs to win. A victory over “The Queen” would cement her as the next big thing and continue to position NXT as a third brand.
Furthermore, one of WWE’s biggest failures with the women’s division is that they haven’t established enough stars outside of the Four Horsewomen. This is their chance to build Ripley into the next big thing.
They don’t want to make the same mistake they made with Asuka at WrestleMania 34. A loss won’t hurt Flair. No matter what she will go down as on the best wrestlers of this generation.
WWE has done a great job putting this dream match together. Now, they have to stick the landing.
