Aerial Monroe earns a rematch for the Phoenix of RISE title
Last night, RISE revealed Aerial Monroe will challenge Zoe Lucas for the Phoenix of RISE Championship again at The Summit. The two have unfinished business and it will all come to a head at The MET – Midtown Event Theatre.
This will be one of four championship matches on the card for a historic all women’s supershow. SHIMMER Champion, Nicole Savoy, and Femme Fatales, Champion Mercedes, Martinez will also defend their respective titles. In addition, Smash Wrestling will crown their first women’s champion.
Monroe’s popularity is growing on the indie scene. In fact, she was one win away from challenging for the title in March. The current champion, Zoe Lucas, eliminated Big Swole to win the inaugural RISE of the Contender 30-woman Battle Royal match at Legendary.
As the name suggests, the over the rope battle royal is similar the WWE’s Royal Rumble, granting the winner a shot at the Phoenix of RISE Championship anytime they choose.
Lucas went on to defeat Kylie Rae, who had just finished a grueling match against Mercedes Martinez, to capture the title at the same event. The new champion made a lot of enemies, but it looked like Aerial Monroe would get her revenge at Luminous.
Instead, Zoe pulled off a cheap win to defeat the challenger, who had a hand on the rope. The referee didn’t see it and Lucas fleed with the championship still in tow. Monroe will get another shot at the title and retribution in a few months.
The Summit will take place in Toronto, ON at The MET on Saturday, Aug. 10.
