AEW announces Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament

On Wednesday’s episode Dynamite, All Elite Wrestling announced the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament: The Deadly Draw.

Recently, Brandi Rhodes and Allie have gained momentum as a tag team called The Nightmare Sisters. Last night, Rhodes teased that there would be more women’s tag team matches as she asked for more teams and something bigger to fight for.

AEW quickly honored their request the next day when they aired a vignette to announce the Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament.

16 women will team up to form eight teams that will compete in the event this summer. It seems like the prize will be a trophy of some sort but this could be a step toward women’s tag titles.

It’s unclear who will compete in the upcoming tournament. The clip featured Penelope Ford, Nyla Rose, Diamante, Big Swole, and Anna Jay.

AEW has shown a real commitment to showcasing top notch tag team wrestling. It’s good to see that that mission extends to their women’s division.

The AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament: The Deadly Draw will take place some time this summer.
