Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross leave RAW as new Women’s Tag Team Champions

During a fatal four-way tag team elimination match, Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross walked away from tonight’s Raw as the new Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Tonight’s episode of Raw had two tag team matches, but only one was a title match. The IIconics defended their belts against Asuka and Kairi Sane, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville, and Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

In the elimination match that took up the majority of the third hour, the women of Raw and SmackDown were also informed that they could tag-in any opponent to take their place within the ring.

The defending champions, the IIconics, were the first to be eliminated, ensuring new women’s tag team champions for WWE. After being continuously tagged in for Bliss, Fire & Desire (Rose and Deville) were the next team to be eliminated.

After a long, impressive bout with Asuka and Sane, Cross and Bliss participated in some typical debauchery, allowing Bliss to take advantage of a knocked-out Sane. Bliss landed a Twisted Bliss on Sane, cementing Bliss and Cross as WWE’s new Women’s Tag Team Champions.

The tag team title match was set to originally take place on Sunday at SummerSlam, but plans changed last minute. Though no official reason was announced, many believe WWE gave the match enough time to breathe on the show to shorten the upcoming pay-per-view, while also giving the match the time it deserved.

There’s still plenty of women’s wrestling to watch at SummerSlam, airing on the WWE Network live from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, this coming Sunday.
