WWE expects Asuka to be able to wrestle this weekend following an injury scare this week.
Last night, the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion was scheduled to face off against Shayna Baszler on Monday Night Raw. Hours before the show began, WWE reported Asuka had sprained her wrist. They replaced her with her tag team partner, Kairi Sane, who tapped out to Baszler in the match.
According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer, Asuka sustained the injury over the weekend during tag team match at a live event. However, there is also some speculation that this is a kayfabe injury.
According to Alex McCarthy of talkSport, the injury is storyline based and “The Empress of Tomorrow” is NOT injured. This is great news for Asuka since she is scheduled to be one of the six women participating in this Sunday’s Elimination Chamber match.
McCarthy and many others felt this match-up between Asuka and Baszler should be saved for a later date. Both women are two of the most talented in-ring performers on the WWE roster, and a feud between them is something that shouldn’t be rushed.
