Becky Lynch opens up about passing the title on to Asuka

Recently, Becky Lynch sat down with Sports Illustrated, where she expressed what it meant to leave the title to Asuka.

It has already been about two weeks since the expecting star vacated the Raw Women’s Championship. Afterward, she shocked the world when she announced that she is pregnant.

As such, Lynch passed the title on to one of her most fierce rivals and the 2020 Women’s Money in the Banks winner, Asuka. It was a moving segment that was clearly special for “The Man.”

“Passing that championship onto Asuka meant a lot,” said Lynch. “She really, really deserves it. And another element that people missed, because it’s not really advertised, is that she’s a working mom.

“She’s proven that you can do it all. You can be a badass and go off and have a family, you can come in and still kick more ass, have a YouTube show and be entertaining as all hell. The fact that she was the person to take that title from me meant a lot to me.”

Lynch also revealed that it felt good to restore “The Empress of Tomorrow’s” title after the events leading up to WrestleMania 35.

“I’ve had some of my favorite matches with her,” said Lynch. “Asuka’s cool, she’s so good and she’s a hard worker. She wants to give back and she’s not selfish. Around March of 2019, she was kind of robbed a little bit of her title. I was glad this time she was able to get it back.”

Of course, she’s referencing the infamous SmackDown Women’s Championship match, where Asuka lost the title two weeks before WrestleMania.

Becky Lynch admitted that she felt bad for Asuka earlier this year on WWE Backstage. It was another reason why it was so symbolic that she left the title to her.
